Super Easy Sour Dough Crouton Recipe
Recipe:
Leftover sourdough loaf
Oil of choice, we use avocado or olive oil
Seasonings of choice, we used an Italian seasoning blend
I measure with my heart on this and I tend to take a lazy approach so this will be as simple as I can make it. Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees F. Start with chopping your bread into crouton-sized chunks. this will be a preference thing more than anything, I tend to like mine larger. You will want them to be as uniform as possible for even baking. On the pan, we do not need extra dishes to wash, add your croutons and cover in oil until evenly coated. 2-4tbsp probably, but I just measure with my heart. Toss the bread, then sprinkle with your seasoning of choice and toss one last time to make sure there is an even coating. Pop the croutons into the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes. You can pull these out halfway through if you’d like, I did not and nothing bad happened. These will last less time than store-bought croutons depending on how they are stored. I let them cool completely and then stored them in a plastic container that we had on hand (I made sure it was airtight). You will want to be sure that these are completely cool before storing them as well.
Final thoughts
I am a person who doesn't like things to be too complicated. If there is an easy way for me to do something, I will do it. I love croutons, but generally would buy them because I found some recipes that took a long time in the oven or seemed too complicated. I know, cutting up bread is hardly rocket science. When you’re a busy mom though the faster you can do something, the better it is. Bonus points if I don't have to stop them baking halfway through, so I don’t. They turned out perfectly! I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I did, and finally have a use for the leftover bread that you have probably overbaked. If you’re anything like me, there is a surplus of bread for sure.
